Abstract

"When Gregory Ivanovich Shelikof established his trading post at Three Saints Bay on the 3rd day of August 1784 it was not an ordinary venture of a common fur trader to gather a few skins for a temporary profit. It was part of a far-reaching plan devised for the extension of Russian dominion over the larger part of the western coast of what is now Canada and the United States...
