Stories of Early Times in the Great West for Young Readers

Authors

Abstract

"This small book, carefully prepared for reading in schools of the third to the sixth grade, exemplifies the best type of material now available to the school librarian. No political history is included and dates and names are used as sparingly as possible. The pictures of life are intimate and the aim is to stimulate the imagination of the child so that he may begin to place himself in an historical perspective. The arrangement, which is roughly chronological, ranges from the Spanish missions of California to the founding of the commonwealths of the Northwest."
