Abstract

"The Oregon convention at Cinncinnati and the other meetings that came about voluntarily in different places in the Mississippi Valley in 1842 and 1843 performed a useful part in bringing the Oregon question to a final settlement. They helped to arouse the sentiment of the people in favor of a strong assertion of American rights to the Pacific Northwest."
