"A group of historians, writers, and others [will]… travel from Chicago to the mouth of the Columbia River in July of this year. The party will be accompanied by a group of students who are winners of oratorical contests in the high schools of various cities throughout the country... The Governors and Historical Societies of the states of Montana, North Dakota, Idaho, Washington and Oregon are sponsoring the trip, which will be known as the Columbia River Historical Expedition."
