Abstract

"The vessel in which we are especially interested today is the ship belonging to Mr. Sidenham Teast- the Ruby- which was on the [Pacific] coast in 1795. This vessel is one that entirely escaped the painstaking researches of Hubert Howe Bancroft and his writers. Nor can a single word about her, not even her name, be found in any history of the Northwest Coast... It is fitting that on this occasion publicity should be given to the hitherto unknown voyage, at least so far as relates to this vicinity."
