Abstract

"The document which follows is a diary of a trip overland from Wisconsin to Dayton, Washington Territory, in 1878… Many journals of trips over the Oregon Trail in the forties and fifties have been published… Very little attention has been paid, however, to the later period of immigration, when conditions of travel had changed considerably and some of the hardships which had characterized the earlier period had disappeared. The journal of Mrs. Ide is offered as a contribution to the study of the later period of migration to the Pacific Northwest."
