"In 1811 at Chilkat Inlet, Lynn Canal, Alaska, an attack which fortunately failed was made on the Boston brig Otter… On the return of the Otter to Boston in July 1812 her master, Samuel Hill, wrote and published in the Columbian Centinel an account of the tragic occurrence. It is reproduced later in this article and is offered as a contribution to the detailed history of our coast and of its maritime traders."
