Abstract

"Papers in the Middle West, including the Denver Times, have been reprinting an auction notice for the sale of personal property on March 1, 1849, by J.L. Moss, who was to leave for Oregon [from Kentucky]… The articles listed for sale include this: 'At the same time I will sell my six negro slaves-- 2 men, 35 and 50 yrs. old; 2 boys, 12 and 18 years old; and 2 mulatto wenches, 30 and 40 yrs. old.'"
